Scottish Parliament Inquiry into Damp and Mould in Housing

Ahead of the debate, we briefed members on the condition of social homes in Scotland, as well as work members were already doing to tackle the issue. The recent briefing produced with CIH and ALACHO on addressing damp and mould was named by members as an example of good work.

Over the last two weeks the Scottish Parliament has held a member’s debate on damp and mould in housing and launched a short inquiry into the same issue.

Ahead of the debate, we briefed members on the condition of social homes in Scotland, as well as work members were already doing to tackle the issue. The recent briefing produced with CIH and ALACHO on addressing damp and mould was named by members as an example of good work.

This week Carolyn Lochhead, SFHA Director of External Affairs, gave evidence to Parliament as part of the Local Government, Housing and Planning Committee’s short inquiry. Ahead of the session, we submitted written evidence to the Committee. Carolyn set out that most social homes in Scotland are of good quality: almost nine out of ten tenants say they are happy with the homes and services their landlord provides. But where issues with damp or mould do arise, our members are taking them seriously. MSPs were interested in the work that SFHA, ALACHO and CIH had done already on the issue. We’ll keep members updated with any recommendations to government that the committee make.
