Launch of Thriving Places: Housing Associations, Co-operatives and Community Investment

Posted Monday 24th February by Rachel Carter

Our members work every day to support their communities and ensure tenants can flourish. As part of our wider policy work on community investment, we launched the Thriving Places report with Housing Minister Paul McLennan MSP.

Last year we launched our report Thriving Places which explores the types of activities social landlords are delivering in their local areas in collaboration with tenants, charity partners, and communities.

West Granton Housing Co-operative are among the many organisations featured in the report, and the event heard from their Chief Executive, Larke Adger, on the co-operative's partnership with a local charity, Midnight and Beyond, working to reduce youth violence in the Granton area of Edinburgh.

The partnership has helped dozens of young people find employment opportunities, and has engaged them by bringing them together at night through social activities. This has saw incredible results in reducing the number of criminal charges faced by young people in the local area.

Highlighting and supporting the work our members do in the community is a significant part of our policy work - find out more here

SFHA and their members play an incredibly important part in working in communities. It's not only about delivering houses, but being part of their communities as well, and we've seen how much a difference that has made here in Granton.
