Viewpoint tenant board member retires after more than 10 years
Jean Simpson was the first Viewpoint tenant to become a board member.
Viewpoint tenant Jean Simpson, of Inverleith Gardens, has retired after 10 and a half years’ service as a board member.
Ms Simpson, who previously worked as a co-ordinator with Viewpoint, moved to Inverleith Gardens in 2006. Ms Simpson was the first tenant to become a board member. She acknowledges that her experience as a tenant allowed her to look at things from a different perspective and listening to other tenants helped her to contribute to shaping the strategic direction of the organisation. Jean also brought experience of working with various charities.
In an interview for the Viewpoint newsletter, Ms Simpson said: “I will miss being on the board, but I have lots of stu? I want to do. I love all kinds of crafting, playing bridge, church activities, books and two book clubs…. these are all things I will now have more time to do.”
When asked about tenants’ involvement on the board, Ms Simpson added: “I would certainly encourage tenants to get involved, it is really rewarding, and you can also join other committees or projects. There is always something interesting going on. It is good to be involved and to shape, support and challenge the organisation in a positive way.”
Viewpoint Chief Executive Office Jean Gray said: “I would like to thank Jean for her services to Viewpoint over the last ten and a half years. Board service is one of the toughest volunteer roles of all, and Jean has tirelessly given her time and resources to the Board and a number of sub-committees, always with a focus on the vision and values of what we aim to achieve.
“She has been a judicious steward, shown continual dedication and tenacity and has never ?inched in the face of making difficult business decisions, maintaining a measured and non-biased approach at all times.
On both a professional and personal level I would like to thank Jean for everything she has done for Viewpoint and for her ongoing commitment and support through the recent challenging times. I hope that Jean will continue to participate in the organisation through tenant consultation groups and share her experience, knowledge and prowess with others.”
