Opportunities for board and committee members
SFHA’s Innovation and Future thinking programme is hosting a workshop for board members on social value on Tuesday 1 June.
SFHA recognises the importance of members having an opportunity to calculate and use social value measurements, and its Social Value Toolkit provides resources to support this approach.
Housing associations and co-operatives being able to demonstrate the impact they are making, shows the additional value of social housing and illustrates the ways in which the sector is contributing to a healthier and happier Scotland.
Social Value for Board Members
This session, aimed at board and committee members, will give you a better understanding of the use and importance of social value measurements in order to incorporate this approach into your organisation’s strategic outlook and resource allocation.

OnBoard
SFHA recently re-launched its OnBoard service which supports members that are looking to recruit to their boards. OnBoard works in two ways: members can contact SFHA when opportunities arise, and these will be added to a register of recruiters, and those who are interested in becoming governing body members can also join the register as potential candidates. SFHA then matches candidates with organisations, depending on organisations’ needs and candidates’ skillsets.
SFHA will also work with those who are interested in joining a board and support them in developing the skills and knowledge they need to be part of a housing association.

HACT’s NED Network
Wider support for board members is being provided by SFHA’s Social Impact Partner, HACT’s Ned Network. The NED Network will meet fortnightly, and each session will be hosted by a non-exec director involved as part of a housing association board. Each meeting will explore a key topic relevant to their governance role, including how boards can discuss racial equality and how board members can scrutinise transformation programmes.
