Join HSEU and SFHA on 11 April to discuss the proposals around housing and independent living in the Learning Disabilities, Autism and Neurodivergence Bill. The consultation is open until the 21 April, and this discussion is an opportunity to inform the contribution from SFHA and the HSEU on housing and independent living for people with learning disabilities and autism.
Section 4 of the consultation focuses on housing and independent living with the following proposals:
- Development of advice advocacy and guidance
- Development of neurodivergent and learning disabilities strategies which could require local authorities to set out how housing, care and health services are integrated; describe the supports available to people to help them live independently; and, evaluate progress against this.
- Development of mandatory awareness training for housing professionals.
- Improving data collection which could include data on how many people with learning disabilities are considered not to have access to appropriate housing.
- Documents in relation to housing to be available in easy read formats.
Section 5 of the Bill covers Complex Care – Coming Home which will also have implications for housing and care services. It covers areas such as the actions required to enable people with learning disabilities who have complex care needs live in a home and community of their choice.
The session will provide an opportunity to share your views and inform the response to the consultation from HSEU and SFHA.
