Housing Changes Lives: Supporting Communities

SFHA's Housing Changes Lives campaign is highlighting why it’s vital that all political parties commit to investing in the social housing sector because of the impact that housing associations' and co-operatives' homes and services have on tenants' lives.

Hillcrest Hygiene Packs

Funding received from the Scottish Government’s Supporting Communities Fund allowed Hillcrest Futures to distribute 100 hygiene essentials to vulnerable people across Dundee.

Hillcrest’s harm reduction service was awarded £1,500 to purchase various items to help those who use substances to stay safe during the coronavirus pandemic.

Each pack contained two reusable face masks, hand sanitiser, shampoo and conditioner, deodorant, a toothbrush and toothpaste, a bar of soap, face cloth, hairbrush, lip balm and a pack of razors within a re-useable drawstring bag.

A client of the service said: “The pack has been really helpful during these uncertain times and I’m very grateful to the team for all they do to support me.”

As part of its Scottish Parliament election manifesto, SFHA is calling on all political parties to commit to a  new long-term fund, building on the Supporting Communities and Empowering Communities Funds, which will enable social landlords and communities to work together in order to support those most affected by Covid-19.
