UK Government have this week published their Supported Housing Review report. The report was jointly commissioned by the Department for Work and Pensions and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government to provide an up to date understanding on the size, composition, cost and demand of the Supported Housing sector in Great Britain.

The research, delivered by Sheffield Halam University, aimed to provide an evidence base to enable effective policy development. It highlights the diversity of the sector and the challenges for local authorities and providers in maintaining and developing new supported housing.

Policy surrounding supported housing varies across the UK, however any subsequent DWP policy will of course have implications for Scotland. The report may also help raise the profile of the benefits of supported housing in Scotland, spotlighting the increasing need for such provision and the need for a clear policy framework to facilitate this.
