Following calls from SFHA and other concerned stakeholders, Ofgem will be holding an industry summit to agree a consensus on how to tackle the impending closedown of the RTS signal.
In June 2025, the RTS signal will be decommissioned, requiring rapid action to secure smart meter installations and the roll-out of other technical solutions for the over 241,500 households in Scotland with an RTS meter.
SFHA has been calling for a strategic approach and coordinated efforts to support and protect tenants who could be left without heating and hot water in the event that their RTS meter fails at the point of closedown. We have been calling for urgent action in advance of the June 2025 deadline and are pleased that this summit will now be taking place.
We are aware that this is a particular concern for many rural and island members, as well as housing associations with a large proportion of tenants who use storage heaters. That's why we will be calling for decisive action to secure much-needed progress in this area. Details on the outcomes of the summit will be shared in the coming weeks.
