Posted Thursday 10th March by Admin User

Ahead of our Development Conference, taking place on 15 March at Dynamic Earth in Edinburgh, we asked our speakers about what they'll be discussing during their session and what they think housing will look like by 2040. Alistair McArthur, Head of Development at Maryhill Housing, shared his thoughts.

What are you discussing at the conference?

I will be promoting the inclusive living agenda and how to make homes as adaptable for future needs as possible

What does Scotland's social housing sector need to be able to achieve the Scottish Government's target of 110,000 affordable homes by 2032?

With current construction inflation running at a very high level, this is a major challenge. I would like to see government work with the supply chain (builders) to produce a housing product which meets benchmark levels

What do you think our homes will look like by 2040?

I don’t expect homes will look much different on the outside –  we will not have gas heating, our digital provision will moved on significantly, our homes will have built-in adaptions for easy modifications to accommodate future needs
