Scottish Government has launched a consultation on building standards to further improve the energy and environmental performance of new buildings. It is intended that these new standards will acts as a Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus standard.

The Scottish Government is consulting on proposed changes to energy environmental standards following the commitment to make subordinate legislation by 14 December 2024 to give effect to Alex Rowley MSP’s Proposed Domestic Building Environmental Standards (Scotland) Bill.  This legislation would effectively “introduce new minimum environmental design standards for all new buildings to meet a new Scottish equivalent to the Passivhaus standard, in order to improve energy efficiency and thermal performance.”

The consultation is in two stages – the first stage will focus on the principles that would define the future standard.  This will then inform the second stage consultation, which will focus on the detail of proposals (scheduled for summer 2025).

This online round table will bring together key officials from the Scottish Government with SFHA members to discuss the current review.
