Housing associations have a strong track record in providing specialist housing for people with additional care and support needs. Given the Scottish Government’s vision for independent living across a number of policy areas including Housing to 2040, Coming Home and the National Care Service we are keen to do what we can to ensure that housing and health and social care can collaborate to deliver housing care and support solutions for people with very complex needs.

The Coming Home Report 2019 and the following implementation report Forewords - Coming Home Implementation: report from the Working Group on Complex Care and Delayed Discharge - gov.scot (www.gov.scot) highlighted the situation of people with complex care needs stuck in hospital or inappropriate residential placements far from home  as a result of lack of provision of good quality housing and care in the community. With good planning and partnership working across the health, social care and housing sectors it is possible to make a difference to this.

SFHA will host a webinar on 14 February in partnership with the Housing LIN (Learning and Improvement Network) to showcase a model of housing with care and support for people with learning disabilities and complex needs.  The virtual session will focus on the art of the possible, and what can be achieved when people work together.
