On 6 September, the First Minister announced that the Scottish Government intended to introduce a rent freeze and evictions moratorium, effective immediately, to last until at least 31 March 2023.

Following our most recent briefing (available in the downloads section to the right of this article), we now understand that the Scottish Government intends to introduce the emergency legislation on Wednesday 5 October, with the intention that it will be concluded the following day.

As agreed at our most recent member roundtable, SFHA is asking members to share data on the impact of potential scenarios, to ensure we have the information required to influence effectively.

Please fill in the six questions included in the template, which can be downloaded to the right of this article. Please ensure that you scroll down to complete all of the questions and send your completed template to smitchell@sfha.co.uk by Friday 30th September.

SFHA has been in intensive talks with our members, senior civil servants and politicians since this announcement. We are in no doubt of the level of concern among the sector about this announcement and its likely impact on your ability to support tenants. We have updated our rent setting and affordability tool to include the latest data.  You can read more about this here.

We will shortly be issuing a further briefing and an MSP contact toolkit. Do please continue to contact our Policy Lead Shona Mitchell with information and queries: smitchell@sfha.co.uk.
