The energy regulator, Ofgem, has launched a consultation on energy consumer consents. Responses will be used to inform the development of a digital solution to enable consumers to share energy data with trusted third parties. An analogy for this, is the way that Open Banking is used to safely share bank account information between consumers, providers and other chosen organisations.

It has been recognised that, to date, the consumer cannot easily and securely share energy data with market providers. As a result, many consumers are limited in their ability to use data and technology to help lower and their energy bill and make greener choices.

SFHA is aware of the difficulties experiences by housing association energy advisers in trying to engage with energy suppliers on behalf of tenants. We hope that Ofgem's work in this area around a consent solution may help to streamline processes so that housing associations and energy advisers can more effectively advocate for tenants.

Further details on the consultation can be found as a download to this article and via the Ofgem website. The consultation will close on Friday 4 October and please contact eharji@sfha.co.uk to discuss further and to share views.
