As part of the effort to address the Cost of Living Crisis, New Gorbals Housing Association (NGHA) will host a number of energy information events for tenants throughout March.

Working together with Home Energy Advice Team (HEAT) and local partners, the Association aims to give people information and support with their energy bills and usage. Plus, thanks to £20,000 funding from the Scottish Federation of Housing Associations’ Fuel Support Fund, NGHA is also able to offer a £40 fuel top-up to 500 vulnerable Gorbals households.

There will be three events across the Gorbals in March dedicated to providing tenants with the £40 fuel vouchers. They will take place at the following dates and locations:

  • Thursday 7 March in NGHA’s office, 200 Crown Street, from 10:00 to 14:00.
  • Friday 15 March, the HEAT advisor will be at Crossroads Youth and Community Association (The Barn), 37 Abbotsford Place, from 11:00 to 14:30. The Barn’s usual Toastie Fridays event will run as normal so tenants can also enjoy some lunch when they attend for a fuel voucher.
  • Thursday 21 March at TASK Childcare, 347 Caledonia Road, from 09:00 to 11:00 and again from 13:30 to 15:30.

For those who are unable to attend during the day, NGHA is also hosting an evening Tenant Advice Surgery on Wednesday 20 March between 17:30 and 19:30. NGHA Housing Officers and Welfare Rights team will be there, along with its HEAT advisor and Money Advice service.

Michael Fullerton, Community Coordinator at New Gorbals Housing Association said: “We are committed to supporting our tenants with food and fuel where possible and thanks to the Social Housing Fuel Support Fund, we are able to offer 500 tenants a £40 top up to help them alleviate some of the pressure this winter.

“We also host a weekly community breakfast and fortnightly evening community meal to try and address food insecurity and would encourage any struggling tenant to reach out to the Association to see how we may be able to help.” The events are all drop-in sessions with no need to book in advance and are open to all New Gorbals Housing Association tenants."
