Join SFHA at party conferences! We will be representing our members at two party conferences over the next couple of weeks – SNP and the Scottish Greens. If you’re at either of the conferences, then come and join in on what we hope will be two wide-reaching and interesting discussions.

On Tuesday 17 October we’ll be in Aberdeen, hosting an event at SNP Conference between 12:30-13:30 in Meeting Room 5. Our Chief Executive, Sally Thomas, will be joined by John Dickie, Director of Child Poverty Action Group Scotland and Craig Stirrat, CEO of the Grampian Group.

We’re excited to be joined as well by Ben Macpherson MSP, who will also be on the panel. Ben was previously the Minister for Social Security and Local Government and has taken a lot of interest in social housing issues since leaving the Government.

Tackling poverty and ending homelessness: delivering Scotland’s social homes

  • Sally Thomas, Chief Executive, SFHA
  • John Dickie, Director, Child Poverty Action Group Scotland
  • Craig Stirrat, CEO, Grampian Group
  • Ben Macpherson MSP

This event will be focused on the importance of social housing in tackling poverty and ending homelessness and discussing how we can deliver the social homes Scotland needs to meet the Government’s child poverty targets.

On Sunday 29 October we’ll be in Dunfermline, hosting another event at Scottish Greens Conference between 14:00-15:00. This time Sally will be joined by Dave Hawkey, Senior Research Fellow at IPPR, and Nick Clark, CEO of Ore Valley Housing Association.

We’re delighted that Patrick Harvie MSP will be joining the speakers for this event. Patrick is the Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings, Active Travel and Tenants’ Rights and is leading on much of the forthcoming Housing Bill.

Decarbonising our homes and reaching net zero: how to make it a just transition

  • Sally Thomas, Chief Executive, SFHA
  • Dave Hawkey, Senior Research Fellow, IPPR
  • Nick Clark, CEO, Ore Valley Housing Association
  • Patrick Harvie MSP

For this event we’ll be focused on how our social homes are key to tackling poverty and reaching net zero and will explore what’s needed to finance a just transition to net zero and further support the social housing sector to decarbonise our homes.

Party conferences are a good opportunity to re-affirm the value of social homes to a wide audience, share ideas on how we can better tackle poverty and reach net zero, and build relationships with key members of parliament.

If you’re at either conference then come and say hello and get involved in our discussions!
