Barrhead Housing Association works with partners to build much-needed homes

The transformation of a derelict brownfield site in Barrhead is gathering pace as construction work continues on the delivery of 35 new homes, including eight for Barrhead Housing Association at the Eden Grove development.

AS Homes (Scotland) is constructing the homes on behalf of Barrhead Housing Association and Briar Homes. The Scottish Government provided Barrhead Housing Association with grant funding of more than £646,000 to deliver these much-needed affordable homes.

The development includes a mixture of two, three and four-bedroom homes for affordable rent and for sale. Work is anticipated to be complete by the end of summer 2022 when Barrhead’s tenants will be able to move into the new homes. The high-quality homes will have several design features which will help tenants to reduce their carbon footprint. This includes up to the latest energy efficient heating systems, high insulation standards and PPV solar panels to help reduce energy consumption. The 35 homes are built around an attractive landscaped green space.

East Renfrewshire Council supported the development by approving it in its strategic housing investment plan.

Barrhead Housing Association Chief Executive Lorna Wilson said: “With the previous building demolished some time ago, it is fantastic to see the land at last being put to good use. There is a huge need for social housing across East Renfrewshire, including Barrhead. The range of homes being delivered here at Eden Grove demonstrates the commitment to increasing the availability of affordable homes in the Barrhead area. It has been good to be on site to see good work being carried out by our partners AS Homes.”

Phil Daws, Head of Environment from East Renfrewshire Council said: “East Renfrewshire Housing Services are delighted to support this development as part of the council’s priority for the provision of good quality, affordable housing for our residents”.

AS Homes Managing Director, Paul Kelly, added: “I am delighted to see that Eden Grove is progressing well. The project is bringing much-needed, highly energy-efficient homes to East Renfrewshire, and we look forward to welcoming the new residents this summer.”
