Following delays due to the pandemic, Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) had the opportunity to open its development at Sgeir Ghlais, Breasclete on 29 April. Sgeir Ghlais has 10 homes, with six for social rent and four being shared equity homes.
This site was completed and handed over during the pandemic in September 2020 which, HHP said was "a notable effort" by Calmax Construction Limited, due to the additional challenges during that time.
HHP Chair Iain Macmillan said: “It is important to celebrate all the new homes HHP IS building across our communities and, perhaps ,especially those such as Sgeir Ghlais that were built and completed during the most difficult stages of the pandemic. Our staff and contractors rose to the challenges and these high-quality homes are testament to that.”
Councillor Kenny John Macleod, Chairman of Communities and Housing Committee, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said: “I am very pleased to see this HHP development being officially opened, as these houses have had a significant impact on housing need in this part of Lewis since they were completed.
"It’s really good to see the mix of social rented and shared equity houses as this will increase the housing options in the area.
"On behalf of the Comhairle I would like to thank all the partner agencies who have been involved in taking this housing development to fruition.
"This will be my last official role as Chairman of Communities and Housing Committee, so I would like to take the opportunity to thank HHP for the significant number of new houses it has built over the years, and I look forward to hearing about new rural developments such as Sgeir Ghlais in the years to come.”
