At its Annual General Meeting on 28 August 2024, Hebridean Housing Partnership (HHP) committed to donating £1,000 to support six local charities:

  • The Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Trust
  • Share (South Uist & Eriskay)
  • Cobhair Bharraigh
  • Advocacy Western Isles (Speak Out Group)
  • Eilean Siar Foodbank
  • Western Isles Kidney Patients’ Association

On 29 November 2024, representatives from Advocacy Western Isles, Eilean Siar Foodbank, and the Western Isles Kidney Patients’ Association visited HHP’s office to receive their cheques. During the presentation, each organisation shared details about their work and how the donation would support their efforts.

Ian MacRae, General Manager of Advocacy Western Isles, expressed his gratitude, stating: “We are very grateful to HHP for their generous donation to support the work of Advocacy Western Isles in providing a high-quality independent advocacy service. Our staff have worked with HHP staff often in the past, and we look forward to strengthening our working relationship further to find solutions for those in our community in need of specific support. As a charity, we rely on funding from various sources, and when a local organisation such as HHP donates in this way, it underlines the value of independent advocacy in the Western Isles and shows the benefits of partnership working.”

Charlie Nicolson, speaking on behalf of Eilean Siar Foodbank, highlighted the importance of collaboration to address food insecurity in the community:“The Eilean Siar Foodbank is delighted to work alongside Hebridean Housing Partnership to support people in the community who would benefit from assistance with food items. We hope that this work will continue on our islands for as long as it is needed and that more families or individuals who require food provision will come forward or identify themselves to us at any time. Identities are kept in the strictest confidence as always. The initiative is born out of a recognition of the serious limitations financially which can be experienced by families or individuals for a variety of reasons. We thank HHP for their donation, which helps us look after those who need extra help in our community.”

Donald Nicholson, Chair of the Western Isles Kidney Patients’ Association, explained how the funds would directly benefit dialysis patients: “The Western Isles Kidney Patients Association are delighted to receive this very kind donation from HHP, which will be used to enhance the quality of life for dialysis patients. It is particularly timely as these patients feel the cold more than others as a consequence of their illness.”

Presentations to the Eilidh MacLeod Memorial Fund, Cobhair Bharraigh, and Share will be arranged at a later date. HHP’s contributions underline its commitment to supporting vital community initiatives across the Western Isles.
