GBM Forum Launch - note of group exercise

Posted Wednesday 24th April by Admin User

Many thanks to all who attended the SFHA's Governing Body Members (GBM) Forum launch on 16 April.   At the event, our hosts Thenue HA gave an overview of their governance and the excellent work they are doing in their local community, with CEO Gary Naylor and Centre Manager Rosie Robertson giving really informative presentations to the group.

For the majority of the event, Dorothy Bulmer took delegates through some facilitated networking exercises, identifying the key successes and challenges delegates wished to highlight.  A note of this group exercise is now available to all members of the forum.

The full note is available in the downloads section to the right of this article.  Please note that you will have to log in to access the document.

The successes and challenges identified by the group are split into five broad categories in the note:

  • Staffing/resources
  • Governing body/resources
  • Community/tenants
  • New and existing stock
  • External organisations/requirements

The most common challenge identified across all five categories was around lack of funding to meet increasing requirements and pressures.  The difficulties being faced to recruit both staff and governing body members were also highlighted by each of the groups, alongside the competing priorities of trying to keep rents affordable in the face of ever increasing costs.

We will use the common themes emerging to shape the agenda for future meetings of the forum and the remit of the group.

If you have any queries regarding the note or the forum in general please contact Alan Stokes, Policy Lead.
