Melville Housing Association tenants have moved into the first new homes completed by the Dalkeith-based social housing provider since the start of the COVID pandemic.

Ten of the 26 new Melville homes at Taylor Wimpey’s Pentland Green development have now been handed over, with the remainder expected by the summer.

The development was made possible by £1.935 million funding from the Scottish Government. These latest homes help towards meeting the exceptionally high demand for social housing locally and build on a successful partnership between Melville and Taylor Wimpey, which has already delivered over 100 high quality, affordable homes across Midlothian.

Melville Housing Association’s Chief Executive, John McMorrow, said: “These new affordable homes, made possible thanks to Scottish Government funding and excellent partnership working, are a welcome boost to the local area.”

“The Covid-19 pandemic has not been easy for anyone, but I’m both delighted and proud that we’ve been able to meet the challenges head-on.

“The huge numbers on Midlothian’s social housing waiting list demonstrate the desperate need for good quality, affordable housing such as these at Pentland Green, and we will continue to do everything we can to respond to this demand.”
