The HSEU and SFHA are holding a roundtable event about the Scottish Government’s Practical Fire Safety Guidance for Specialised Housing and Similar Premises which was published in January 2020. The guidance is primarily for those who are responsible for specialised housing and who provide care and support services, but it is also useful for those receiving “care at home” services or support in general needs housing.

A research report into the impact and effectiveness of the new guidance, along with the Government’s response and proposed actions, are now available on the Scottish Government website. A main recommendation from the research was to further improve awareness and use of the Guidance.

This roundtable event, taking place on 22 February, will provide the following:

  • An overview of the guidance
  • An overview of the recent research into the impact of the guidance
  • An opportunity to discuss what you have been doing in your organisation to implement the guidance and identify any challenges you face.
  • An opportunity to consider any further action at a national or local level to promote fire safety for those living in supported housing or who live in mainstream housing and have support and/or care needs.
