Working in housing gives young people the chance to truly make a difference in people's lives. But how do we spread this important message?

SFHA’s Routes to Housing project focuses on career pathways into the social housing sector and making housing a recognised career of choice.

By connecting with local communities and young individuals and partnering with career focused organisations such as Developing the Young Workforce, you can inspire students to consider housing as a career.

All the resources you and your colleagues need to attract and support new talent are available via Your Career in Housing, a joint initiative between CIH Scotland and SFHA to provide young people with the skills and opportunities to pursue a career in housing.

We have loads of employer resources that organisations can explore, and young people can learn from the experiences of other housing professionals who have shared their career stories.

Below Jonathan Giddings-Reid shares his advice for pursuing a career in housing.

Other opportunities to get involved and learn more:

  • We’re hosting a free webinar with ‘Developing the Young Workforce’ on 18 April, exploring how to attract, select and retain young talent.

  • Our Annual Conference this June will explore crucial skills for our teams in upcoming years.
