The Data Lab is looking to place students, studying MSc courses in universities across Scotland, on industrial summer placements.
The Data Lab is looking to place students on a 8-12 week industrial placement for summer (June-August) 2022 (placements are also available for the period September – December 2022).
These students are studying a range of MSc courses in AI, data science and data engineering, in a variety of domains including in health and social science, urban analytics and policy, GIS, Business/Fintech, and satellite applications, at universities across Scotland. This programme has been running since 2016, matching students in organisations in all sectors of the Scottish economy.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, The Data Lab understands that employers will be operating in a number of different ways in regards to remote/hybrid working. If working mainly remotely, the student will be required to be in regular contact with the host organisation during placement (daily if required) and must be provided with access to the data and any specialist equipment required to deliver the project. If the project requires the student to work mainly/full-time in the office and remote work is not feasible please provide this detail when submitting your project form with reasoning.

The Data Lab will arrange a call to give you further details on the Placement Programme and assistance in naming your project.
The Data Lab will help you to complete a Project Form detailing your organisation’s Placement Project details. The form will enable you to articulate the technologies and competencies required for your Project.
You should ensure all necessary funding (internal and external) is in place before submitting the Project form.
The Data Lab will match the most suitable student to your Project based on the information supplied in your Project Form. One student CV will be presented to you as a best match to your project. Please do not request additional student CVs until you have met and assessed this student.

Organisations should discuss the Project with the selected student to ensure compatibility. This meeting will be arranged by The Data Lab.
Please ensure that you provide feedback on every stage in the process (CV assessment, meeting, offer of placement, etc.) within a maximum of 48 hours to your The Data Lab contact
On receiving your response after the student meeting, The Data Lab will liaise between you, the selected student, the University and The Data Lab to confirm the placement if dialogues are successful.
