Communication Inclusion People has been appointed by Public Health Scotland to do the Communication Inclusive Place Standard Project.

The project will run up to the end of July 2022.

The project will produce a

  • Communication Inclusive Place Standard Kit with practical easy to use materials.
  • A Kit Users Pack giving step by step guidance on how to use the materials.

The outcomes of the project will be:

  • more people who experience communication disadvantage being able to understand and join in with the Place Standard process.
  • an increased chance that the development of healthy places will better reflect the needs of people who experience communication disadvantage.
  • an increased chance of more communication inclusive, cohesive communities with better service take-up and health and well-being outcomes for people who experience communication disadvantage.
  • Place Standard facilitators having tried and tested materials at their fingertips and feeling more confident and able to meet communication needs of wider populations.
  • increased awareness of people who experience communication disadvantage, an understanding of inclusive communication, why it’s important and how to do it.
  • learning which could inform other community involvement activity.

To join in you need to

  • have some experience of running a Place Standard session.
  • a plan or willingness and time to organise a Place Standard session in June 2022.

Testing the Communication Inclusive Place Standard Kit and Kit Users Pack will involve

  1. Running a Place Standard session using the Communication Inclusive Place Standard Kit materials and Kit Users Pack by the end of June 2022.   The group will involve at least 5 people with diverse communication preferences by the end of June 2022.   Project leads can help you find people for the group if necessary.
  2. Providing structured feedback on the session. We will supply a form to be completed and do a follow-up phone call if necessary.

In return each Communication Inclusive Place Standard Kit and Kit Users Pack test team will get

  1. Information on what’s important in a place to people who experience communication disadvantage.
  2. Information and advice covering

    Who can experience communication disadvantage?

what inclusive communication is, why it’s important and how to do it?

  3. Named in the final project report if they want to be named.
