Changeworks has celebrated its most successful year yet for Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Schemes (EES:ABS) funding, and is looking to achieve even more in 2023-24.

In the past year, Changeworks supported seven local authorities across the country to improve the energy efficiency of 1,587 homes, helping householders to cut carbon emissions whilst also making their homes easier to heat. Some councils achieved their greatest ever spend for EES:ABS projects, which will result in huge energy savings for householders at a time when more people than ever are in fuel poverty.

Now, Changeworks has supported its partners (Aberdeen City Council, the City of Edinburgh Council, Fife Council, Midlothian Council, Moray Council and Scottish Borders Council), to develop more than £15 million worth of projects for delivery in 2023-24. They also supported the submission of additional funding requests in some local authority areas to deliver an extra £4 million worth of energy efficiency upgrades. These additional projects will further the benefit of EES: ABS programmes in each local authority area, and increase their impact for householders most in need.

Whilst EES: ABS funding is targeted at private householders, Changeworks also assists Registered Social Landlords and aims to deliver retrofit projects in tandem with these schemes, taking advantage of economies of scale and streamlining project management requirements.

Dovetailing retrofit projects across tenures enables registered social landlords to maximise the impact of available funding, upscaling the benefits for households and enabling more people to live in affordably warm, sustainable homes.
